Mr Ashby's Memorial Page

30th March 2014

Thank you to everyone that contributed to the memorial fund.  The memorial benches and trees are now in position on the school field and Mr Ashby's Mathematician of the Year shield has pride of place by our trophy cabinet.

An Ineffable loss!

Mr Ashby died unexpectedly after a short illness on Sunday, December 29.

He was an exceptional teacher and assistant head teacher who had such a passion for learning and education.  Mr Ashby was dedicated to the school and education and this has been remembered by current staff, past staff, pupils and parents.

Mr Ashby taught at Lent Rise School for nearly 20 years.  Amongst other things he was an inspirational mathematics teacher and he led the girls’ football team, of which he was very proud.

The school has been overwhelmed with messages of condolence for pupils, staff and Mr Ashby's family.  Many remembered his sense of humour, which added to the learning environment he created.   The respect shown for each other during this time is a true depiction of the respect held for this dedicated teacher.

During the memorial assemblies held in January, messages and poems written by the pupils were read out, alongside the celebration of memories that the school community hold.

Mr Ashby is also remembered for the curriculum taught in Year 6 and in particular, the vocabulary taught and used daily.  In his memory, we launched a ‘word of the week’ section on the school website.

Lent Rise School Associated have organised a memorial fund which is organising two specific memorials.  There will be a football viewing area made up of benches and also an annual mathematician of the year award.    Our thanks go to all those that have generously contributed to this fund.
